Noncognitive Factors Affecting Academic Achievement of Juvenile Delinquents

The present study provides a description and analysis of the plight first-time detained juvenile delinquents in United States impact noncognitive attributes academic achievement on grades. Juvenile have poor outcomes as adults higher rates drug abuse, high school graduation rates, lowered employment well into adulthood. research questions examined correlation among grit, self-concept, mental health, self-esteem, achievement, English Mathematics grades for aged 10-18. A multiple regression archival records students short-term detention center was conducted. Findings showed three predictor variables were statistically significant influenced performance measured by grades: verbal ability, social prosocial skills. For (n = 72; males 58, females 14) 10-18 (M =15.3; SD 1.6; range 10-18), predicted (adjusted R2 .280) .225). There discussion recommendations policies research. results support need to consider factors consideration communication skills education delinquents.
